Indigenous Art

Vitrina Virtual - Artesanía Indígena

What is the goal of putting "indigenous art" in a display case?

There are many Indians who are gifted artisans. They carve figures out of the hard Palosanto wood, they weave bags and blankets out of the fibers of Caraguatá or sheep's wool, which they stain with natural materials before.
The main goal of this project is to promote and support the artists. The weaving is about to disappear because the younger generation doesn't show interest for this art anymore.

Virtual Vitrine

What is a „virtual vitrine”?

The term “vitrine” comes from french and means: glass cabinet to show things. Virtual comes from latin and means “seemingly, imaginable“. Businesses display their goods in shop windows and want their customers to arouse interest for it. A “virtual vitrine” is something like a display window in the internet, where a gallery with pictures and videos with explanations for products or arts and crafts can be displayed.

Buy Indian Crafts

The indigene ethnic groups in central Chaco produces carvings and crafts made out of sheep´s wool and caragautá fibers (a wild kind of bromeliads), which are all dyed with natural materials. Unfortunately there is a risk that the craft could die with the older generation, since the children and youth have other interests. By buying indigenous crafts you support the traditional craft, an essential part of culture for these indigene ethnic group. And you contribute to the improvement of their income. The funds of the sale are directly passed on the indigenous artists.
