ORGANIZATION OF THE COLOGNE NEULAND

In the early years, the colony was called "New settlement with Fernheim. His own newly named had come when all immigrants. At a meeting on 4 December 1948, it was decided to determine the February 1 anniversary as a day of the colony Neuland.

In the first two years, the colony was governed by a council, which was responsible for the location of the settlers in their villages. This primeval institution was replaced on January 22, 1949 by an Administrative Council elected by the settlers, which was composed of 5 members, and later the number was increased to 7 members. The Council was chaired by the administrator. Mr Peter Derksen was re-elected several times as administrator of the Colony Neuland. The Supervisory Board took 3 members.

 

For its food, the immigrants were then MCC 20 Guarani (6 USD) per person per month. Of this amount, each settler should contribute 3 Guarani (15%) to finance community projects such as a first-aid post.

The colony Fernheim maintained a branch in Neu-Halbstadt. On March 15, 1949, the colonies and Neuland Fernheim, at a meeting of the council decided its autonomy in matters of trade. The details of this meeting are covered in the minutes of March 15, 1949.

On June 1, 1949, the branch of the Cooperative Fernheim operating in Neu-Halbstadt became the Cooperative Neuland.

In the early years, the new Cooperative Neuland had two branches: one in Schönhorst and another in Steinfeld, then villages in the colony Neuland. After the dissolution of Steinfeld, the branch was installed in the village Tiege.

As from January 1, 1958 stopped the obligation of every settler to approve certain days for the common good.

The MCC called from the beginning for all Mennonite colonies towards greater cooperation. The benefits would include: greater opportunities and fewer problems. So, was founded on March 26, 1949 a commercial company with the name "Commercial La Concordia SA.". The partners were 5 colonies: Fernheim, Friesland, Menno, Neuland, Volendam and the group of Mennonites living in Asuncion. The cooperation will focus on the construction of roads, schools and hospitals, as well as commercial activities of import and export. At that time, the MCC and saw the installation of a plant tissue in the Chaco and a factory sugar or starch in the Eastern Region.
